A really amazing place to stay with grat views over Funchal. The hosts were very helpful and I would love to go back again.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this lovely property, and we can confidently say that we enjoyed our time immensely. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that great care had been taken to ensure that every aspect of the place was well-maintained and inviting. Joy was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that our stay was as enjoyable as possible.

A fantastic property with a beautiful view. The owner is great at communicating and happy to be amenable to ensure that you have a great stay. You're a 4 minute drive or cab (less than a fiver) from central Funchal but far away from any interruptions at night. It's located right at the end of the toboggan route so you're perfectly placed to partake in one of the main tourist experiences without being fleeced by the local cabs as you make your way to your accommodation. The location may be a challenge for drivers if you're not used to driving in Funchal but there is off-street parking and clear directions from the owner - you'd have issues with hills anywhere on the island! All in all a fantastic stay on a beautiful island!

Alles entspricht der Beschreibung und den Bildern. Das Haus ist sehr großzügig und unglaublich charmant, mit allem, was man braucht, ausgestattet. Man fühlt sich gleich wie zuhause. Wir waren einfach begeistert!!

A beautiful location close to Funchal and with easy access to main roads, making it a perfect base for exploring the island. The garden is peaceful and relaxing with a stunning view. Joy is a fantastic host who truly goes above and beyond to make your stay special. She welcomed us warmly, offering a delicious homemade dinner and shared helpful tips and tricks for exploring the area. She even surprised us by baking a birthday cake. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a wonderful home base in Madeira!

Very nice house with a very nice garden and surroundings. Splendid location in between Funchal center and Monte. The owner lives nearby and was very friendly and attentive. Ideal place to relax. Ideal basis for most of the walks on the island. Would love to go back.

We had a great stay in Funchal. I think the pictures for this place probably dont do it justice, it is a stunning property and we loved staying there. My young kids were very comfortable there and didnt want to leave! We would stay again no problem

Joy was a wonderful host and Quinta d Alegria is lovely! The garden's surrounding were beautiful and the house was charming. We enjoyed our welcome dinner cooked by Joy and the breakfast in the refrigerator. We got around using taxis and did several local island tours, all very interesting and a fantastic place for a family gathering. The pool was enjoyed by all!

It's such a beautiful house, as soon as I saw it I wanted to stay there and it met all expectations. It was perfect for the 7 of us who stayed - plenty of room, fab pool, gorgeous garden with enough seating for everyone, well equipped kitchen and fantastic views. Joy and the team sent us lots of info before the stay and booked a taxi from the airport so we could easily find the house and on arrival there was lots of info and recommendations ready for us in the house. Joy was on hand if you had any questions and even prepared an amazing home cooked dinner for us one evening. This was my second visit to Funchal, I feel it's a place I'll keep coming back to I really love it - the locals are friendly, the food is great and it's very beautiful too. We had a fantastic stay.

Joy is a lovely, welcoming host and her villa is as stunning as the pictures make it look! It is on a very steep hill but with space for two hire cars it's relatively easy to access. There is also a bus stop and taxi rank 2 minutes walk away at the bottom of the hill. Joy gave us lots of local recommendations which we used and had a fabulous time! The house is at the bottom of the toboggan run so it is a real novelty to see them all passing by the balcony and to wave. It's also fun to get the toboggan down right to your front door! Bus service number 19 takes you straight into town and is very cheap with a giro card. Villa is beautiful and has so much to offer for a big family or group of friends. Weather can be right on the cusp of the mountain clouds vs Funchal's sunshine but there is so much to do in Madeira that the weather doesn't pose much of an issue. Thanks Joy!

Beautiful villa, every home comfort had been thought of, on arrival host was there to meet us, went through everything we needed to know about the villa and the area, left a file with loads of helpful telephone nos trips etc. Our plane had been delayed by several hours, on arrival we found tea, coffee milk, biscuits, wine and lovely treats, such a nice touch.

Tout était parfait. Notre hôte était charmante, à l'écoute et très réactive. La maison était très propre, spacieuse, pratique et surtout très belle . Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Funchal en très grande partie grâce à notre lieu de résidence.

We stayed for a week in this beautiful house - it is just stunning! Despite arriving 3 hours late, the delightful owner Joy kindly greeted us and spent some time showing us around. We had already booked a 'welcome meal' for the evening, (beautifully cooked by Joy) …can thoroughly recommend! The house is very elegantly furnished, extremely well equipped and beautifully clean. It has large light and airy rooms, all with fabulous views from every window. We arranged for the pool to be heated and although the weather wasn't overly warm, we did manage to swim in it most days. The house is in a lovely area within a 10 minute drive into central Funchal - Joy gave us details of places to visit and kindly arranged a couple of fabulous restaurant bookings for us. We have stayed in many Airbnb's throughout the world - this has to be the best! We cannot recommend it highly enough! Thank you Joy and Linda for making our stay in Madeira so wonderful …. The villa's location, next to the Toboggan station, was great, a 30 minute walk into Funchal for the old town, city centre and promenade, and 30 minutes down from the palace of Monte and the Toboggan run start. It's also a great location to explore the rest of the island if you have rented a car, with the dual carriageway a few hundred meters away. Villa owner Joy was very accommodating both with check in and check out, particularly because we had to alter travel plans at last minute. Would highly recommend the villa.

Just completed a week's stay in Casa Allegria with our family. Villa was just as advertised, spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed with spacious interior, great views over Funchal and very well equipped. The owner Joy was very helpful and efficient and welcome pack was extensive.

The villa was fabulous - very comfortable, beautifully decorated and furnished clean and in a perfect localtion. Close enough to Funchal centre to walk in down the very steep road and in a very quiet residential area. The bakery which is 5 minutes walk was a morning ritual for coffee and pastel de nata for breakfast. A mini supermarket only 15 minutes walk. The fridge and cleaning cupboards had a few supplies and a small supply of toiletpaper when we arrived which was a real bonus. Joy and her husband were delightful hosts - there if we needed their advice and good communication on arrival and departure. I would recommend this villa to everyone.

We had a great stay in this villa. It had a lovely and homely feel throughout and stunning views. We could highly recommend and would definitely stay here again next time too. Funchal is about 20-30 min walk, but like almost everywhere in Madeira, it's a steep walk. There is a nice little bakery a few mins walk, that sells fresh bread and patisseries. Because of Covid restrictions we also used Uber Eats a few times and many restaurants deliver to the villa. Other Airbnb's we've tried felt a bit impersonal, but Villa Algeria has a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

It was a truely great stay. Our Madeira and Joy as a host were super responsive and gave us many recommendations where to go to. Definitely one of the rare outstanding villas on the island.

We had the most fantastic stay here! The house was kept spotlessly clean, and the owners had thought of everything! Brilliantly equipped kitchen, lovely decor, light and airy space, beautifully maintained pool area and garden.... just perfect! We had our one year old son with us too, and the owners were very helpful in providing a cot and high chair for him and he loved exploring the garden. The owners were also very helpful with recommendations for good places to eat, and answered any questions we had really quickly. Joy, the owner, is a wonderful cook and we'd recommend trying the dinner she can provide (for a small extra fee) on arrival. I really couldn't fault this place and we spent a very happy two weeks here. We'll return!

Very clean and wonderful villa, we enjoyed our stay very much. The house is just uphill, doable with small children. There's a bakery nearby and a supermarket on a 10 minute walk. And just under the house is a bar and souvenir shop because of the touristic toboggan rides that pass the house. The owner, Joy, was very friendly and responded fast. Would recommend this place to everyone.

Ich machs kurz: - toller Blick - nette Gastgeber - alles sauber - Pool wird regelmässig gepflegt und ist ausreichend warm - grosszügig im Innenraum - ein grossartiges Domizil als Rückzugsort - Wermutstropfen? Es ist nicht wirklich peaceful, man hört schon die Autobahn ein wenig und die Strasse. Die Einfahrt zur Garage ist eng und steil und man muss rückwärts einparken. Also besser ein kleineres Auto nehmen.

We stayed here for a week in mid-March. Joy was at the villa to receive us, showed us around and made us feel very welcome. The villa itself is impressively well renovated, spacious, well furnished and full of history. The views of Funchal are fantastic. The amenities are excellent and we made use of the heated pool and BBQ. We had a car in order to explore, but Uber is operational on the island and is a very reasonable service. The drivers were more than happy to have a chat about the local area. Funchal is not the easiest city to drive around yourself, as the roads are very narrow! I'd highly recommend staying at Quinta D'Alegria. The whole family loved it.

What a nice and pleasant living. Impressed from the island, the villa and the neighbourhood. Very nice to stay here for a week in perfect conditions!

Top notch self catering villa, tastefully decorated with charm and care. A piece of traditional Madeira unlike the many modern villas on offer. The house was kept spotlessly clean by a friendly maid who came twice during our stay, but was totally inobtrusive. Ditto for the gardener who kept the garden watered and free of fallen leaves. Joy the owner was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble when we wanted to celebrate the birthday of a lady in our party, she served us a fabulous meal with wine which was the icing on the cake for our holiday. The steep incline up to the house was a bit daunting at first but as its only a short walk from the Livramento road we soon got used to that. Oh and the views...from the pool one can see the whole bay of Funchal from East to West, and we delighted in watching the cruise ships come and go in the harbour. We will be recommending to family and friends who are frequent visitors to Madeira. We hope Joy can fit us in one year for New Year and the fireworks !

We've stayed at Quinta D'Alegria four times and every visit has been special. The Quinta is very tastefully decorated and furnished, set in beautiful gardens overlooking Funchal and out to sea. Joy and Luis, the owners, are extremely welcoming and very helpful in giving advice on what to do and where to eat on the island. The Quinta is well kitted out so if we fancy a change from restaurant food it is a pleasure to cook in. Alternatively we have booked Joy to cook a meal, her culinary skills are first class.

This year I decided to visit Madeira Island with my family and found this fully kitted house with an excellent taste and view. Can't wait to come back!

This was the latest of our numerous visits to this property over the years, and proved as excellent as all of our previous stays. A very well equipped and maintained house with a swimming pool and stunning views out over Funchal. The English / Portuguese couple who own the property live close at hand and are very friendly and helpful. December is a temperate and colourful month to visit Madeira, and we're already planning our next trip.

The property has wonderful views but the Garage is quite difficult to use as it is on the road of the corbs and this is very steep. The property was very clean but we had Problems with the local millipedes !!. Joy was very good and helped us a lot and organised a new oven as the existing one broke within 4 Hours. The local bus Service was excellent, cheap and only 100m away near the local bakery which is very good.There are 2 Restaurants nearby.

For us, a luxury holiday revolves around 3 things; a qulity location, good food (and drink) and accommodation with a "wow" factor. Madiera provided the first, the many bars and restaurants of Funcal the second and Quinta D'Alegria fulfilled our every expectation in terms of a "wow" factor. A beautiful property set within an equally stunning garden......we spent a month here and loved it......Many thanks Joy!

My wife and I enjoyed the villa and location so much 3 years ago that we decided to bring our whole family back last August ( some stayed elsewhere) for a special anniversary Location ,views and true home comforts - plus Joy went out of her way to help arrange a special celebration for us A great restaurant close by with traditional music was a plus All around fabulous And yes Joy is also a fabulous cook

A very nice villa. Very well equipped with everything you might need. Our host was very nice and helpful. The kids loved the pool. There is a bakery nearby for fresh bread in the morning. There is also a small supermarket at about 10 minutes walking distance. It is a good idea to rent a car, it is possible to park it in the garage or on the street nearby. It is also easy getting a taxi or go by the bus that stops nearby. We were four adults and three children and had a great stay in Madeira and can really recommend this villa.

This is a lovingly restored house with a very beautiful, functional garden with swimming pool and the added bonus of THAT VIEW. We loved living amongst the locals who were very friendly and welcoming. Our age range was 14 years to 76 years and we all coped with the challenge of the steep roads. A massive thank you to Joy and all her staff for looking after us so well - we wanted for nothing. I would return in a heart beat and can highly recommend this lovely house to anyone thinking of visiting Funchal.

Für weitere Ausflüge auf der Insel sollte man motorisiert sein. Das Haus ist voll ausgestattet, blitzsauber und gemütlich. Wir können diese Unterkunft wärmstens empfehlen.

Quinta d'Alegria is just a wonderful location! The house has everything you need. The view from up there is breathtaking. The house is top quality, kitchen, bedrooms, everything is just fab! The only little drawback: If you have a problem walking up hills, this place might not be right for you. We had one person who because of age and health really struggled. But that's not the fault of the villa - just to point out that you need to watch that when going there. Altogether : simple brilliant!

We received a warm welcome from Ciseltina the housekeeper as Joy was away when we arrived, but it was nice to meet her at the end of our holiday. We had an amazing stay in this beautiful house. Everything was perfect. Cozy and spacious, great view and garden. Simply the best place to come back to after hiking or exploring other spots on Madeira. We only ate out one night - the rest of the evenings were spent at "home". Joy was very helpfull and kind - really have nothing at all to critisize, everything was great.

We chose Quinta D'Alegria as a special place to celebrate a family birthday, and it did indeed prove to be magical. Our Madeira were excellent in all aspects of booking and gave us plenty of information to plan for our visit. Joy the owner, cooked us the most delicious meal on our arrival, enough for yummy leftovers the next day! The villa was spacious and comfortable and blissful to return to, after each full day exploring the island. We would love to return as there is so much more to see and do!

This elegant house, beautifully restored by its owner and mercifully spared from last year's fires, made a perfect retreat for us (retired couple) for a week. Easy living, and splendid views right down and across Funchal bay to the unending horizon of sea and sky. The garden is charming and the pool surprisingly spacious (we had it heated as quite early in the season). You do hear some background noise during the day from the Toboggan run which finishes almost outside the house gate, but not disturbing. We chose Sunday though as our pool lounging day as it doesn't operate then and we had total peace. Everything spotlessly clean (and some lovely fresh flowers in the house too). Some really charming watercolours in every room, and solid old furniture, all easy on the eye. WiFi good in living room, but not elsewhere. Overall this makes a stylish, comfortable and entirely relaxing living space. Some key points: 1. Sleeping There are 3 beautiful, calm bedrooms with extremely comfortable (firm with give) beds. We were able to keep windows and shutters closed at night and so totally quiet and dark. Slept better then I think I've slept anywhere. But in summer may be too hot to keep windows closed (there is no aircon) and then you will hear distant traffic from the big main road further down the hill. Bathrooms (two identical) are spacious and water always hot. 2. Food and Basics Well stocked, generous welcome pack of basic items. Very handy minimart, quite well stocked for basics including fresh veg, within walking distance. Fantastic bakery literally round the corner. Kitchen is well equipped with all you need. We chose a meal cooked by the owner on our arrival night, and this was not only delicious but so generous in amount that we had plenty for the next day too. There's also quite a charming garden cafe just a little way down the hill which is open during the day. There is a walkable local restaurant too (just past the minimart),with basic food nothing special but passable. 3. Travel We didn't have a car (although there is garage parking on site). We used a combination of minicabs (e.g. only 11euros to get to the Palheiro Gardens which we highly recommend) and excellent local bus service down into town (the number 19 - a rollercoaster ride in itself! - flat fare 1.95 pay on bus). We also used a couple of restaurants that run a pick up service. Local car tours round the island are available too (perhaps ask in advance and book). All worked fine for us. Walking up, or down, is challenging for all but the very fit as the hills are often near vertical! Also stepping outside the door needs care as the Toboggans come down at quite a speed! (NB a half hour walk along the road gets you to a bus to take you up to Monte, and then you can toboggan it back down.)

We had a wonderful 2 wk stay, made very special by the care and attention of the administration team, very warm welcome of the owner who gave very helpful advise on where to go and what to do and the servicing of the accommodation during our stay. We loved the spaciousness and the views, used the BBQ and ate almost all our meals outdoors. Local transport and markets were varied and excellent. Eating out was very enjoyable, reasonably priced and tasty. Local stores were convenient, bread was super. What more could you want for your holiday. Only neg. comment - anyone with walking disabilities would find access to the very steep road quite difficult.

We were not disappointed in any way with the villa. It was in a brilliant location with a view down to the harbour from the terrace. Very well equipped with many extras that are very often lacking from holiday homes eg. toilet rolls,salt & pepper,several spices & oils in the cupboard & a very comprehensive welcome pack. We paid extra for the pool heating which was well worth it as we could use the pool every day comfortably, even though the weather was not at its best during our stay. Joy, the owner was on hand to help with any queries that we may have has & the lovely maid came mid stay to clean & change towels, etc. (another bonus not always provided) Our arrival was quite late so we went to O Rustico Restaurant about 1/2 mile up the hill. Very local with limited choice on menu but very good food, fantastic friendly service & incredible value for money. During our stay, one of our party had a birthday so we went to Mozart restaurant in the Old Town which was a fantastic evening & well worth a taxi ride for a special occasion. We would be more than happy to return to the villa for a future holiday.

Right from the start contact with Linda and Norberta over the booking of Quinta D'algeria made us feel at ease with our choice of holiday accommodation. We opted for the arrival meal on the first night, what a stroke of brilliance, Ciseltina cooked a superb three courses that were much needed after a delayed arrival. Throughout our stay she made sure all was well without any intrusion, her care and attention was obvious and we felt at ease as soon as we arrived. Ciseltina left us in the capable hands of Joy when she departed for a well earned break in the last few days of our stay and the standard of care was handed over seamlessly. The Quinta sits high above Funchal and the vista that greeted us on our arrival couldn't have been better. The city of Funchal sits beyond the seclusion of the well tendered gardens and the refreshing blue pool. We found immaculate accommodation and facilities, wifi and room to relax, all we would need to enjoy a self catering family holiday with two teenagers. A short walk to get fresh bread each morning was routine, and often we would leave our hire car in the carpark by the market after a night out so the next day we could walk down into town, maybe shop at the fruit market (being wary of some of the more pushy fruit selling scams) and drive back up to the tranquility of our holiday home. The overnight parking fee is capped and less than the taxi fare, though neither are unreasonably priced. We explored Funchal both day and night, enjoying the bars and restaurants of the old town. The cable cars and gardens make for a wonderful day out and if you are keen on having the toboggan experience you will find yourself conveniently finishing your ride at the bottom of the street the Quinta D'algeria is situated on. The rest of Madeira is well worth exploring, high roads, incredible walks and views with wonderful natural coastlines. But for us the highlight was this fantastic place. Every night we came back, and every morning we woke up feeling so lucky to have found such a beautiful house to spend our holiday, any future venues are going to have to go some to beat this. Thank you Linda and Norberta, we have already pointed friends in the direction of this lovely holiday venue and if we return to Madeira yours is the first place we will look to book.

When it comes to stating in a Rental property you expect to make allowances in respect of facilities and the level of comfort and equipment to use during your stay - not here. They really have thought of everything - and quality too! From the heated pool, sumptuously equipped kitchen, fine dining settings to a beautifully comfortable lounge to sit around an open fire, even the logs are provided. I cannot recomment this place highly enough - and the attention to detail is amazing. On our last night - the maid 'Ciseltina' prepared and served a fantastic three course meal for us at the dining table which had been beautifully dressed earlier on. There was enough food to feed twice the amount of people present (5) together with 2 bottles of nice wine, and at a very reasonable rate. Thank you very much for a superb stay - we will return

We have spent a wonderful holiday at Quinta D'Alegria - a perfect name for the property by the way! The house is very beautiful and everything is nicely decorated with a lot of love. The garden is very neat and a lot of flowers were blooming. The view above the city and the harbor is absolutely stunning and the location of the property is perfect to reach every sightseeing hotspot easily. The Toboggan ride stops exactly next to the entrance, so you can take the cable car to move from Funchal harbor to Monte and use the Toboggan to drive back to the property. A very good bakery is just around the corner. In the evenings we enjoyed the heated pool to relax from the levada walks. Joy, the owner, was such a nice host. The dinner at the first evening was very delicious and she even provided some food for the next breakfast. Joy was always very helpful if we had some questions or needed some advice. We were feeling like Lords and Ladies here. Obrigado ! Madeira is a beautiful and fascinating island. Even though the weather could have been a little bit better (but this is not unusual for April), a lot of beautiful plants were blooming at this time: the Jacarandas, Spathodeas and Erythrinas in the parks and the Echium at roadsides. Die Quinta D´Alegria ist ein traumhaft schönes, altes Herrenhaus. Wir wurden von Joy freundlich begrüßt und erhielten die genaue Wegbeschreibung zur Quinta. Die schmalen, steilen Straßen und die Einfahrt in die Garage sind eine Herausforderung. Man ahnt von der Straße aus nicht, welches Schmuckstück sich hinter den Mauer verbirgt. Der schöne Garten, das großzügige, geschmackvoll eingerichtete Haus und der Ausblick über Funchal sind einmalig. Das Abendessen, dass wir für unseren Anreisetag bestellt hatten, war absolut köstlich - vielen Dank an Joy und Tina. Wir kommen sehr gern einmal wieder.

It was a very great time. The Place was beautiful. The House was clean and very nice. We come in the house and we become a present: A lunch box. This was a great idea. In this week the housekeeping come 3 times. It was a great Holiday. When we drive a other time to Madeira then we stay also in this house.

The house was fantastic, very traditional and stylish, providing all the home comforts you would need. The gardens were lovely with tremendous views over the city and out to sea and the pool was excellent, just the right temperature. The property was immaculately clean, the welcome pack excellent and Joy the owner was very friendly and most helpful with local knowledge and information. We plan to return this house, it was our third visit to Madeira but by far the nicest place we have stayed and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. We ate out every evening and all meals were excellent, a particular favourite was Gaviao Novo, Rua de Santa Maria in the Old Town. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday in this excellent property

Beautiful house, ideally located to visit whole of Madeira. Views from the house are awe inspiring. Welcome basket, fresh flowers and Madeira wine on arrival! What more could we have asked for! Joy is very welcoming and extremely knowledgable and helpful. Dream house, dream holiday.

We stayed at Quinta D'Alegria for one week end of April. To property is located half-way from Funchal to Monte right at the final Station of the Tobbogan. You can walk to the city center in 30 minutes, although the way back up the hill requires some training. Joy has decorated the house very nicely with lots of antiques and nothing is missing. We would highly recommend to book the welcome dinner with her, which was very delicious. However, you have to bear one thing in mind. The house is approximately 400m above sea level and therefore the temperature is usually lower than in Funchal and it appears that there is less sunshine than in the city. Besides that Quínta D'Alegria is a great place which we can fully recommend.

We cannot say enough about our stay at Quinta D'Alegria. We had a terrific experience. The home is better in person than on the internet, as you cannot feel the warmth through the pictures. Everything is clean and well maintained. The garden and pool were beautiful. The owner, Joy, and her maid, Cisteltina, treated us like family instead of paying house guests. The location is spectacular. You are right in the middle of the residential part of Funchal. However, the way the house is set on the side of the hill, you have complete privacy and a spectacular view. Although we left before the New Year's Eve fireworks, we thought it would probably be the best vantage point on the island to see them. We had a beautiful meal made for us our first night there. Despite it being Christmas and having her own family, Joy helped us in making reservations for Christmas Eve dinner and tuk tuks to see the Christmas lights, and printed out a recipe for the traditional pork in wine Christmas dish I asked about. In addition, for a mere 40 euros, Cisteltina made us a delicious dinner of the traditional salted cod in a wonderful caserole dish. This was waiting in the oven after a day of touring. We started the week with a car, but found the hills and narrow streets hard to manage. We ended up returning the car the first day. Taxis were easy to find and Joy gave us the number to the most affordable company. She also gave us the name of a wonderful woman, Terrese, who took us on a day long tour of the island for a very affordable price. Our favorite restaurant was Armazem de Salt. Great ambience and food. O'Classico was also very good. We were not as impressed with Riso. Although the ambiance was great, food was not. May have been due to serving a set menu on Christmas Eve, but all five us agreed that it was not a good meal. Le Jardin in old Funchal was also very good. Madeira itself is a beautiful place and a great combination of things to see, but not too much to see, so you can just relax and soak up the ambiance. I would and will highly recommend this home to friends and family

We had a wonderful week in Madeira; the house was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. The kids enjoyed the pool a lot and the garden and surroundings was everything we hoped for. Joy is a great owner; she came at short notice if needed and were very helpful when we had questions about Madeira in general. We would definitely like to come back!

Our stay in Quinta D'Alegria was really great. First the positive points: Very nice renovation. You really feel that it was made with love. The villa is spacious enough to accommodate 6 persons with comfort. Everything was very clean on our arrival, no visible evidence of previous guests and clearness was kept during our stay. Garden is in perfect condition and the gardener was on duty almost daily. Spacious courtyard with spectacular view to Funchal and Ocean. On arrival we had kind of breakfast pack in the fridge and welcome bottle of madeira. It's very nice when you arriving late after the long flight. Also we were supplied by basics like salt, tea, sugar and even some spaghetti. We also found lots of instructions and recommendations printed for us by owner. The owner was really helpful when we had minor problems or when we asked to recommend local events or attractions. Now some negative things and recommendations: We ordered pool heating, but it appeared to be broken. They tried to fix it, but it took too long. Thus we were able to use the pool only couple days from our two weeks. The good thing is that they did not charge us for the heating. We were there early May and it was cold. Several days it was 13-15 degrees only, with rain. Inside of the house it was also cold and fireplace and electric heater were not enough. So I would suggest have more electric heaters for such bad weather days. The location is on the mount so you will not be able to walk to Funchal. The car is hardly recommended otherwise you will spend too much for taxi. To be honest we were told about that by owner. BTW the entrance to garage is quite tricky when toboggan riding, so be careful and try to get not too big car and think twice about full insurance. BTW the garage could accommodate only one car, but it's not a problem to find a parking down the street. The toboggan stop is right under your terrace it's very fun, but happy tourists produce too much noise. That was disturbing the sleep of our baby.

We have just returned from 2 delightful weeks spent at Quinta Alegria (July 7th - July 21st). The Quinta itself, as well as its surroundings and amenities are of very high and luxurious standard and should fulfil even the most demanding holiday expectations. The property owner and the maid are extremely kind and helpful and they do their outmost to make you feel at home. While we were there, some building work was happening on the land plot below the Quinta. I hereby most honestly confirm that this has caused no disturbance whatsoever. I am particularly attentive to noise factors since I have two young children taking daily rests in the afternoons and they haven't been disturbed by any associated noise of the on-going construction. I am highly recommending the Quinta to anybody looking for an exceptional hideaway in the most typical, yet residential part of Funchal. You will naturally feel like being part of a nice and authentic neighbourhood, and believe it or not, even the construction helped in realizing this rare, but yet desired integration with the local surroundings. Villa excellent, clean and beautifully restored. About 5 mins in a taxi from main Funchal centre. Bit of a nightmare if no car when getting provisions etc. Weather not the best, very changeable and for 6 women was what we craved! Apparently best time to go for hot weather is July and August. Restaurants recommended were excellent. Maid service good, but would actually prefer not to see the maid nearly every day (she cleaned the house next door and used our laundry room). Overall we had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves.

This villa is fantastic, the views are gorgeous, the interior is immaculate with a tasteful choice of furniture and decoration and it is hard to find any fault with the place, it definitely exceeded our expectations. Near the villa is a great little bakery (less than a 5 minute walk and is very cheap to). And the traditional Madeiran toboggans runs just outside the villa on the road it is on. Additionally there is a great restaurant with fantastic wines in easy walking distance. Madeira itself is lovely and has some fantastic Levada walks with amazing views. The owner is very friendly and helpful - we were stuck in Madeira due to the Volcanic ash cloud over europe and she went above and beyond in helping us all out. I would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone wanting to visit madeira!
